About Us
Based in the Illawarra Region of New South Wales, JT Butterflies was founded and is currently owned by butterfly enthusiast and entrepreneur, James Tebbutt. During his primary school years, James had the privilege of experiencing the butterfly life cycle in the classroom; this quickly developed in to an immense passion for butterflies, and eventually, this very business after several years of hands on experience raising and getting to understand a variety of species.
The very magic and awe James experienced in primary school remains core to the purpose of our business; to provide customers an opportunity to experience the transformation of a chrysalis in to an adult butterfly for an affordable price.
Our butterflies are raised in our own facilities, with a great focus on ethical and sustainable breeding practices. While our primary focus is to produce Chrysalis Kits, from time to time we may supply pupae for breeding, butterfly houses and projects.
We are able to post Chrysalis and Chrysalis Kit orders throughout much of Australia (not WA, TAS and SA due to biosecurity restrictions), while we happily deliver local orders during designated delivery sessions announced on our Facebook Page.
Between October to April, our breeding is at its greatest potential. During the cooler months, the climatic conditions often prevent us from breeding our butterflies, often acting as period of time to grow new host plants, maintain our facilities and prepare for the upcoming butterfly season.
